PHOTO PROFESSIONAL – MAGAZINE FEATURE
The latest issue of Photo Professional has a six page article showcasing a selection of photographs I’ve taken over the past four years, along with an interview discussing influences, technique and some of the equipment I use. Terry Hope, editor of the magazine also asks about the Leaving Home exhibition and the role crowd funding website Kickstarter played in financing the project.
Photo Professional Issue 88, is on sale now.
Also available via mail order.
It’s good to see that you are getting some well deserved recognition for your work John.
I’m a regular visitor to your blog and have always enjoy your posts. Lately however I had noticed it had gone a bit quiet – what could have happened? Like the past inhabitants of the deserted cottages had you yourself ‘left home’? Was there now another ‘future ruin’ on Harris? Thankfully I picked up the link to the ‘Leaving Home’ exhibition and can now can see how busy you have been.
I am really glad you decided to get yours and Ian Patterson’s work out to a wider audience. By the looks of the comments in the visitor’s book it has been very well received – especially by the local people.
One request John, if you decide to move the exhibition on, please mention it on your Blog. I’m sure there are many others like me who would love to come and see it.
All the best for the New Year

Hi Mike,
Yes, this place has been neglected a little of late. The Leaving Home project has taken up an awful lot of time (setting up new website, facebook page, Kickstarter campaign, prepping prints etc etc). In hindsight I should have linked to it from here in a more obvious way. I’ll add some more info and posts about the whole thing once the dust has settled. In the meantime I’ve posted a new gallery of images on The Flying Monk website:
http://www.theflyingmonk.co.uk/svmanager/g68/index.php
It features all 19 of the images I had on display in An Lanntair.
Now that it’s two month stint at An Lanntair has finished, the next step for Leaving Home is to find it new temporary accommodation on the mainland during 2014. Fingers crossed there should be some good news to announce on that front soon. As soon as things are confirmed, full details will be posted here!
All the best for 2014!
John
PS. Another magazine feature… 2 pages in this month’s issue of ‘Outdoor Photography’. Not as good as the ‘Photo Professional’ article but better than a poke in the eye 😉
